Lucid Street Theatre is a small performance collective dedicated to providing the Chicago community with engaging, innovative, free public performances that transform the everyday and spark genuine human connection.
Our focus is on utilizing non-traditional spaces, source materials, and performance mediums to create theatre that draws the audience out of passivity and into action, both mental and physical.
Our audience will not be allowed to sit idly by--they are to be engaged fully in our performances, both through participatory actions during the performance itself (such as physically chasing our protagonist through the play) and through an active dialogue between artist and public from the beginning to the end of the artistic process.
To encourage this dialogue, Lucid Street Theatre plans to hold select rehearsals in public spaces (namely the parks where we'll be performing), inviting people to watch and comment upon the progress. Throughout the creation process, pay-what-you-can workshops may also be provided, allowing the public to participate in activities relating to the particular project (movement or devising work, etc). At the end of each project, we will provide post-performance talk-back sessions.
It is our hope that by allowing spectators greater access to the creative process itself, Lucid Street Theatre will encourage spectators to take a more active role in the creation of public art.
Lucid Street Theatre is in the process of being incorporated as a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization.
